February 4, 2015                                                                                                                                   Statement FROM JOYCE ROSE,

OPERATION LIFESAVER, INC. PRESIDENT

on the FEB. 3rd 2015 COMMUTER TRAIN CROSSING CRASH

Yesterday’s tragic collision of an SUV and a Metro-North commuter train highlights the critical need for all drivers to use caution at every highway-rail grade crossing. This incident illustrates all too well the devastating results that vehicle-train crashes at highway-rail grade crossings can have on families and communities throughout the United States.

Every three hours in the U.S., a vehicle or a person is hit by a train. The mission of Operation Lifesaver, Inc. is to educate motorists and pedestrians about the potential dangers that they face at all highway-rail intersections and along train tracks. Our nationwide safety campaign urges: “See Tracks? Think Train!”

Our thoughts are with the families and the communities affected by this incident.
