|SEPTEMBER IS
 RAIL SAFETY
 MONTH
IN
 CALIFORNIA

California is filled with busy rail corridors and active communities. We lead the nation with the highest number of fatalities in both trespass and grade crossing incidents. In 2009, the California State Legislature proclaimed and presented the September Rail Safety Month proclamation to California Operation Lifesaver and its Safety Partners. The Legislature’s recognition provides crucial support to our rail safety mission to provide education and raise awareness that can change dangerous behaviors near tracks and trains that can save lives.

HOW CAN WE CHANGE THESE NUMBERS???

No one can do it alone. It takes all of us working together to impact change.

SAVE LIVES, TELL 5

We encourage California citizens to become active rail safety advocates in their communities by sharing rail safety tips with their loved ones. We ask them to help save lives and share the message with five of their family and friends, and then ask those 5 to tell 5 and so on… This is how our Save Lives Tell 5 campaign began. Community engagement increases rail safety awareness which can help us eliminate dangerous grade crossing and trespassing behaviors.
