Rail Safety Is for More Than a Season

As we rang in the New Year, California Operation Lifesaver  celebrated the renewal of Rail Safety Partnerships  and the work of our incredible CAOL Volunteer Team.  We are passionate about our mission: to provide education across California to grow rail safety awareness. Sharing rail safety tips is a crucial part of educating and encouraging the public to stay alert and make safe decisions near railroad tracks. Our rail safety messages are vital to changing dangerous behaviors near railroad tracks and saving lives.

As winter transitioned into spring, we heightened rail safety awareness in California communities. Our clocks sprung forward, and our Rail Safety Tips stayed at the forefront of our presentations, events, and social media. We emphasized that safe choices near railroad tracks  should be a part of your springtime fun.

May was a busy month. It was a month filled with safety tips for all our first responder heroes and everyday citizens who bike for play and work. May and June welcomed graduation season, a time to celebrate achievements and plans for exciting futures. It was the perfect time to make safe choices near tracks and knowing that unsafe decisions can derail your dreams.

Before we knew it, summer was here. Kids were out of school, summer vacations were on the horizon, and warm weather with long daylight hours brought family gatherings and fun outdoor activities. As summer fun became the spotlight, we underscored crucial rail safety tips. Our highlight for the summer months was remarkably familiar: Do not let your outdoor activities take you on or near the tracks. Prioritizing rail safety should be a key part of your summer plans.

With only a few weeks left in August, we will soon cycle into fall. Our kids are back in school, work commutes start to include school carpools, school buses will make daily trips carrying our most precious cargo, and there is a potential for cool, wetter weather that can affect road conditions. What does this mean for rail safety? A new season of Rail Safety reminders!

As September approaches, we look forward to celebrating the State Legislature’s 2009 proclamation of California Rail Safety Month. Our Rail Safety Partners, CAOL, and our CAOL dedicated Volunteers will combine our mutual efforts to provide education with rail safety tips and messages. We ask our communities to join us and share rail safety messages to keep their loved ones safe.

As we look back and ahead, our Rail Safety Tips are the same for every season. They are essential for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. We must practice Rail Safety every day, week, month, and season. The only way we can change dangerous behaviors is to carry rail safety tips with us and always follow them during every season. Taking it further and sharing messages with our family, friends, and coworkers can help our loved ones make good decisions that keep them safe near tracks and trains.

We are moving full speed into September Rail Safety Month  and  See Tracks Think Train Week . We are sharing rail safety tips with you and ask you to carry them for every season and a lifetime. Please join us by sharing Rail Safety Messages to save lives. Please help us make September Rail Safety Month and all the seasons beyond a time of zero injuries and zero loss of life.

Together, we can create Rail Safe Communities and Save Lives.
